Alexandria, VA
Spring had been giving us a taste of the warm sun and beautiful weather. Weeks and even days before this elopement we had weather in the 70s and sunny days. March 23rd looked a little bit different. On the days leading up to this special day we had figured out a rain plan (a good photographer always has a plan B). We had originally wanted to document the day in old town Alexandria but the weather brought us to Union Station a little ways down the road instead. With the weather in the 50s and rain in the forecast it made more sense for us to find a spot that would offer some dryness.
It was a happy change because we caught the cherry blossoms at peek bloom!
With our plan in place, we headed to the courthouse..
We met under the arches painted in brick to begin the ceremony. Accompanied by my husband and the officiant we celebrated with Bryanna and Dillon in their matrimony. It was short and sweet followed by a kiss and a walk down the imaginary isle. We then headed down the road to meet with their daughters and document them as a family of 4.
Greeted by a weeping cherry tree,
we met with their daughters being watched by their uncle and found a small neighborhood park to photograph in. The rain held off just long enough for these images and I am sure glad it did, we got to tuck the umbrellas away and take in the moment. The way they all embraced during this session is so precious. The oldest, Emilia was pleasantly surprised to see a bouquet and instead on holding it the entire time. She spoke of her time watching Doc McStuffins and having ramen soup for lunch. She had some time to catch her mom up on all the details and did her best not to spill the surprise decorations being put up.
She is so spunky and giggly, she walked backwards most of the way home!
Our Afternoon Ended
With a walk around Washington DC. Across the street from Union Station there's a little walking park where the cherry blossoms were undisturbed and there was little foot-traffic. It was such a great starting point it was lined with benches and a cherry blossom canopy, simply beautiful! Then we walked over to Union Station and captured the architecture. We shared stories of our times taking field trips to DC as kids and did our best to name the monuments in our sights.
An Honorable Mention
To Bryannas ensemble, an Abercrombie satin dress accompanied by a sweater from her grandparents. So effortless and elegant.
